Why Borneo?

Borneo is home to one of the oldest rainforests on Earth — 130 million years old. It is the last place on the planet where orangutans, pygmy elephants, and proboscis monkeys share the same jungle. But this forest is disappearing. Palm oil plantations have consumed vast tracts of habitat, pushing these species to the edge of survival. Your visit directly funds the lodges, rangers, and communities keeping this forest standing.

This is not just a trip. It is a lifeline.

THE ITINERARY

Days 1–2 | Kota Kinabalu — Gaya Island Resort

Arrive into Kota Kinabalu and transfer by private boat to the stunning Gaya Island Resort, set against ancient forest with views toward Mount Kinabalu. Your gentle introduction to Borneo before the jungle beckons.

Days 3–4 | Sepilok — Orangutans & Sun Bears

Fly to Sandakan and transfer to MY Nature Resort, set within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Morning visits to the world-famous Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre — your first encounters with two of Borneo’s most critically endangered species.

Days 5–7 | Kinabatangan River — Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Board a river boat and travel deep into the jungle interior. Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World, is your base for dawn and dusk river cruises. Proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, all eight hornbill species, and if you’re fortunate — wild orangutans swinging through the riverine forest.

Days 8–9 | Tabin Wildlife Reserve

Transfer to the rarely visited Tabin Wildlife Resort, home to the famous Lipad mud volcano — a natural salt lick that draws pygmy elephants, sun bears, and sambar deer in extraordinary concentrations. Outstanding for photography.

Days 10–13 | Danum Valley — Borneo Rainforest Lodge

The crown jewel of the journey. Deep in primary rainforest that has never been logged, Borneo Rainforest Lodge has hosted David Attenborough, Prince William, and the world’s leading naturalists. Four nights of jungle walks, night safaris, canopy walkways, and river cruises in 130-million-year-old forest.
